Project Overview

Loynds, a renowned company that designs, manufactures, and upgrades candy and chocolate machinery, needed to develop a mini rope sizing machine for their growing collection of low-volume lab candy-making machines. Loynds’ machines are used in over 100 countries, and this new machine was intended to offer the same robustness and reliability as their larger units but for smaller production volumes

Challenges and Constraints

The machine needed to be capable of handling long shifts while producing small volumes, ensuring it was both durable and efficient.

The machine had to fit within a smaller footprint compared to industrial machines while maintaining functionality.

I had specific functional requirements and initial engineering ideas that needed to be incorporated into the design.

Solution Approach

Conducted an initial meeting with Loynds to understand their specific functional requirements and preliminary engineering ideas.

Provided several 3D design concepts, reviewing each for feasibility and alignment with Loynds’ needs.

Developed a detailed 3D CAD model of the chosen concept using SolidWorks.

Created a complete set of 2D manufacturing drawings, ensuring all dimensions and specifications were clear and precise.

Compiled a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) to facilitate parts procurement and assembly.

Collaborated with client to ensure all parts were procured according to the specifications.

Supported the manufacturing process to address any issues and ensure the machine met all design and functional requirements.

Outcome

The mini rope sizing machine project was a success, resulting in a robust and efficient machine that fits seamlessly into Loynds’ product range. The machine is now part of their offering, contributing to their reputation for high-quality, reliable candy and chocolate machinery.

The client was extremely pleased with the final design, which met their requirements for robustness, durability, and compactness.
